We have to realize that COB LED grow light has becoming increasing popular among more and more growers, the favor of COB LED grow light is mainly because of its much better grow result than lens series LED grow lights, this article will make it clear that why there are more and more people prefer to choose COB LED grow light.
Basically, there are two factors that make COB LED grow light have a better grow result than common single LED with small or big lens:
As we all know that when light comes from a smaller area, the better light-mixing we will have when it comes to a certain group of lights, on the contrary, the bigger area of light source, the worse the color mixing. For a plant, a well-mixed-light will surely provide plants with better light environment for growing, because as an important factor of plant growing, a well-mixed-light will creates higher quality “light nutrition” to the plants, which is very important to the quality of plants as well.
Below is the regular LED grow light by single LED, you can see that no matter round or square shape, different LED lamps are distributed with a certain distance (2-4mm), such LED distribution will surely not able to create a good light-mixing, so it is clear that the plant is not able to get exposure under good mixed different colors of lights.
However, COB light source is totally different than above regular LED grow light, COB combines a group of LEDs in different colors in an area as small as 27mm ×27mm only, as below image shows, a group of LED are encapsulated in one small square-shaped COB, as all lights are emitted from such a small area, so the light-mixing is much better than regular LED grow light with single LED, it is almost all colors of lights are well mixed during its transmission, especially in reflector LED grow light
The above different light-mixing from two types of LED grow lights also can be demonstrated by below comparison, we can clearly see that COB LED grow light enjoys a much better light-mixing than single LEDs
We have acknowledged that reflector is helpful to gather the lights in a certain beam angle, and its reflection without any refraction of light ensures good and precise light transmission, however, the smaller COB makes the light transmitted more effective to the plant, thus the overall light efficiency is also much improved.
